Artist's Statement
Eco-Rhythms is a public artwork confronting an existential need: Our need to remain connected to the ecological rhythms of our planet.
Ecology is the intersection of all living and nonliving things, and the patterns in which these things interact can be observed as rhythms. For many of us, we have lost the sensual connection to many of the eco-rhythms around us, and therefore are less aware of our shared ecology.
Unnatural and abrupt shifts in ecological rhythms are climate change. This project will express coastal ecological rhythms through light such as tides, ocean currents, fish migration, sea-levels and more. The observable and changing patterns of our environment will be aesthetically presented in light, as a poetic beacon; an invitation to listen, to feel.
